R.I.P Rituparno Ghosh

The acclaimed film maker Rituparno Ghosh who has churned out Bollywood biggies like Raincoat and The last Lear and has 12 national awards to his credit passed away just a few minutes ago, from a massive heart attack. He was of the tender age of 49. 

Ostentatiously dressed and effimanate gestures had made the director a symbol of ridcule, but for people who understood art and filmamking, this man was the living Satyajit Ray. He will always be remembered by the Bengali film making community for his utmost contribution to the world of cinema. 

May his sould rest in peace. Amen !

The Bypass (Short film) starring Irrfan Khan and Nawazzudin Siddiqui, directed by Amit Kumar

It is a silent, short,ruthless and absolutely raw short film.
The story tells about a bypass that could easily assume a moniker for wrong-turn. The bypass seems to be a small strip of road in desert ruled by goons and corruptible cops. Murder,robbery,human-trafficking and rape, this small strip experiences it all. Pertaining to the survival of the fittest, every man has to watch his back but like always men fail. Betrayal and ruthlessness play throughout the movie and the loop is closed by a frail and absolutely innocent seeming widow.

It would come as a surprise to many that the movie casts two internationally acclaimed stars: Irrfan Khan and Nawazzudin Siddiqui and has been directed by Amit Kumar, whose movie 'Monsoon Shootout' will be screened at Cannes 2013 festival. This highly acclaimed movie was studied in many colleges for the intricate expressions and natural background score.
